This Jewish kid loves Lent! I was chatting with my partner, Jack, at Uniquely Natalie this past Sunday, he mentioned a radio segment he heard about giving up clutter for Lent. My friends that observe Lent have told me it’s a time when they give something up during their time of prayer, sacrifice, and self-denial. Mostly I've heard about giving up favorite foods, like chocolate!

But a young woman by the name of Ann Marie who shares tips on decluttering and “intentional” living, home projects and “surviving” daily life, on her website, www.whitehouseblackshutters.com, came up with an interesting idea. She calls it the 40 bags in 40 Days Decluttering Challenge and she’s done it with her followers since 2011. She’s even provided a worksheet to outline areas in need of decluttering, the date committed to the tasks, and how much has been completed.
The goal is to clean up one spot each day. She’s also made a list of areas to declutter. Does it sound like something you, my dear reader, has heard before from me? But it never hurts to hear it again – and hopefully, take heed. So below is the List of Areas to Declutter and the 40 Bags Progress Sheet according to Ann Marie.
No matter what the impetus, Lent, Easter or Passover guests, Jewish guilt, or anything else that will get you from “I’ll get to it” to “I am starting right now” – just do it! Then reward yourself with the gift of a freer, fresher more open, more organized environment.
And – if you take the Lent 40 days challenge – please let me know how you do, as well as Ann Marie.
